Merge 2 SmarTimers Together

  1. From the Navigation menu select: Time > SmarTimers.

  1. The SmarTimers form is then displayed. Unlike all other forms this is not displayed in the desktop area but within its own view. Complete the steps below to merge timers together.

Any two timers can be merged together but It's only possible to merge timers that have a status of INCOMPLETE or READY. Where there is a conflict in client matter details, then the conflict resolution process during the merge will allow you to chose which details will be retained.

To merge 2 timers together, do the following:

  1. Click and hold on a timer to select it.

  1. Drag the timer on top of the timer that it is to be merged with.

  1. The Merge Timers form is displayed.

  1. Where there is a conflict between the 2 records, the conflict resolution options are displayed to select which entry to retain details from. Once a selection has been made click the MERGE ENTRIES button.

     

    The narrativeThe narrative is a text field that will allow you to enter details about the time entry. This field will accept alpha, numeric ansd some special characters, as well as applying Glossary terms and the spell-check function. It may be that the firm has set this as a compulsory field. from both timers will be retained in the single merged entry.

  1. In addition to point 4 above, there may be no conflicts as both timers are identical or, both are for an Unknown ClientThis is the person for whom you are working on behalf of and has agreed to your terms of engagement.. In all instances, the merged entry details are displayed to allow you to edit any fields or narrative, before saving the changes or submitting the time entry.

Should a time entry be submitted from the Merge screen, but there are missing details or an invalid duration, then the submit will fail and the timer will be saved with a status of Incomplete.

Where a timer is saved rather than submitted from the Merge screen, it will be saved as either Incomplete or Ready, according to the validation applied at point of saving.
